COURSES AVAILABLE
at Woodside Falconry and Conservation Centre:
HALF DAY INTRODUCTION COURSE £65
Based at the centre this is a very hands on experience suitable
for all. The course begins with a brief outline of the sport
throughout the ages, from its origins in ancient China to
the days when it was the sport of Kings and Queens. You
will have the opportunity to learn the fitting of the birds
‘furniture’ and its management through the early
stages of training to where the Hawk is flying free. The
course culminates in the flying of one of the trained birds
to the fist in among the ancient monument within Newball
wood.
FULL DAY INTRODUCTION
£99
The same as the half day but then we supply lunch and continue
into the afternoon with much more of the hands on flying
of the birds.
TWO DAY BEGINNERS COURSE
£189
Based at the centre, the course runs for two consecutive
days. This course is designed to meet the needs of the complete
beginner. The different types of Hawks and Falcons and their
advantages and disadvantages as falconry birds are covered
in more detail. You will have the opportunity to learn the
fitting of the birds ‘furniture’ and its management
through the early stages of training to where the Hawk is
flying free. The course culminates in the flying of one
of the trained birds to the fist in among the ancient monument
within Newball wood. This course is ideal for those people
who have an interest in Falconry, however those wishing
to further their interest in the sport will be given further
advice as to how to proceed before contemplating acquiring
a Hawk.
COMBINATION DAY
£99
A full day, with the morning as the half day and the afternoon
as the ultimate experience of nature in the raw. The day
starts from the centre where you will learn more about the
theory of this, the most noble form of falconry, game hawking.
The day covers the preparation of the falcons for a day
in the field and culminates in you accompanying our experienced
falconers into the field to witness how these beautiful
birds come into their own while in pursuit of their natural
quarry. Possibly the only chance you will ever have to witness
the awe inspiring stoop of some of the country’s best
Peregrine Falcons in pursuit of wild grey partridge, you
may see him achieve 100mph falling from 200ft or you may
be lucky enough to see him fall from 1,000ft at 200mph.
EAGLE DAY £129
A full day, with the morning as the half day and the afternoon
as the most noble form of falconry, eagle hawking. Covering
the preparation of the eagles for a day in the field and
culminating in you accompanying our experienced falconers
into the field to witness how these beautiful birds come
into their own while flying in rural Lincolnshire. You will
get the opportunity to hold, carry and fly these the kings
of birds.
